King Edward II--G 24, son of King Edward I and Eleanor of Castile. b. 4/25/1284 Caernarvon Castle, Caernarvonshire, Wales. d. 9/21/1327
Berkeley Castle, Gloucestershire, England.
Info: 1st English Prince of Wales. Reigned 1307-27, a poor ruler
who lavished funds on his “favorites” (it has been implied he was homosexual or bisexual but not confirmed), deposed
by efforts of his wife, Isabella, and her lover, Roger de Mortimer, murdered through their instigation by disemboweling with
a red hot poker inserted through the rectum. This was a common method of execution of homosexuals at this time and also
left no external signs of the cause of death. Buried Gloucester Cathedral, Gloucester, England.
NOTE: Though
not historically accurate, Edward II was the prince and Isabella was Edward’s wife and William Wallace’s lover
in the movie “Braveheart”. In reality, Isabella and Edward did not meet or marry until after the death of
William Wallace which occurred about 1305 and Isabella never met Wallace. So much for William Wallace being the father
of Edward III as the movie implied.
