Michael and Jacob came over
from Rotterdam, Holland, to Philadelphia on Capt. William Muir’s ship “Brothers”. They arrived Sept.
26, 1753. An alternate story is they sailed from Germany on the Patience in 1750 or 1753. Jacob was a physician
and brought his medical books with him. He settled on the farm of Conrad Bovy (Bovey, Povey, Poovy, Poovey) near Newton
in Mecklenburg Co., NC, married his daughter, and was deeded 196 1/2 acres by his father-in-law on Dec. 10, 1766. The
Setzers lived near Newton (Clark’s Creek) 3 1/2 miles west of Maiden, NC, on Hildebrand Creek, a branch of Clark’s
Creek, and attended Old St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Michael remained in Philly for a while, married Mary Schwartz
Fredick, had a son , John, b. 4/9/1760, and later went west. George came over on “Brothers” to Philly on
Sept. 14, 1751. He married Elizabeth Berrier and had George, William Michael, Elizabeth, Magdalena, and Dorothea.
