Was known for his deep and faithful love of his wife, Eleanor, and his wise rule of his early reign.  Was not as good a ruler in his later years after Eleanor died.

Note:  Was the king referred to in the movie “Braveheart”, which was not historically accurate.  However, much of his reign was involved in the suppression of Scottish independence.
